Resiliency is arguably one of the most powerful qualities to master for developing a sustainable state of well-being, health, joy, and fulfillment.
Resiliency is not cultivated by standing in resistance to challenges but rather by rising above the obstacles that life inevitably presents and for that, I have found no more powerful practice than acceptance and resignation. The moment I let go of the attachment to heal the chronic pain that ravaged my life for years, the answers appeared miraculously... the moment I stopped beating myself up for smoking tobacco and accepted that I was going to be a life-long smoker, I stopped having any desire to smoke... the moment I let go of the need to be seen and accepted, unimaginable doors of opportunity opened...
When we let go of the need to push beyond our current capacity and cultivate deep inner love and acceptance, it is only then that we have access to the entire faculty of our capable and genius minds, it is only then that we can truly tap into the wisdom of our hearts...
Rumi says: "This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and attend them all!
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows, who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture, still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice, meet them at the door laughing, and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.
Learn the alchemy True Human Beings know: the moment you accept what troubles you’ve been given, the door opens.
Welcome difficulty as a familiar comrade. Joke with torment brought by a Friend.
Sorrows are the rags of old clothes and jackets that serve to cover, and then are taken off.
That undressing, and the beautiful naked body underneath, is the sweetness that comes after grief."
These days, my work with my clients is entirely focused on the power of acceptance and the surreal inner peace that we can cultivate through what I call "The Surrender Dance"! Surrender isn't about ignoring our human will and discounting our immense power to create the life of our dreams but rather about knowing when to push and when to let go... it's about listening to the innate wisdom of our bodies and nervous systems, it's about tapping into our intuitive guidance, it's about developing deep unshakable faith in the perfection of all our history, our desires, our turbulences, our aspirations, and yes, our inevitable failures...
When we let go of the need to push beyond our current capacity and cultivate deep inner love and acceptance, it is only then that we have access to the entire faculty of our capable and genius minds, it is only then that we can truly tap into the wisdom of our hearts... When we grow to love our lows as much as our highs, we can then experience true inner peace and resilience that cannot be shaken no matter what obstacles life presents...
So if you are struggling with a habit, pattern, or condition, try accepting it fully, forgive yourself, know that all is unfolding in accordance to the divine plan... self-love and self-acceptance can take you the distance that judgment and guilt can never reach.
